Images from JR Exhibition in Shanghai
Wrote a post yesterday about JR’s work. Went and check out his latest exhibition opening at 18Gallery on the Bund tonight in Shanghai. JR himself (+team) was at the gallery and I managed to catch him to ask a few questions that I was keen for answers on. I also found out the locations of some of his Shanghai pieces.
How do you choose your locations?
Well in Shanghai I chose the locations for their architectural relationship. Deconstructed buildings and tall high-rises; contrasts.
Do you always (or at least sometimes) get permission to paste or do you just do it?
Sometimes we get permission. Sometimes we just do it. For this one, we didn’t ask.
Where to next?
[...and yes. They are very keen to travel to Australia.]
The images with the rippled effect were actual paste-ups, mounted pieces of corrugated iron and framed.
